Congress enacted the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990 to ensure that individuals with recognized physical or mental disabilities would receive fair and equal treatment in the workplace. The law seeks to remove the barriers that had denied them the same opportunities, benefits, and privileges enjoyed by other Americans in the workforce. By prohibiting discrimination against disabled applicants or employees who are otherwise qualified to perform their jobs, the ADA has allowed individuals with disabilities to become fully functioning members of American society who make valuable contributions in a number of fields.
This course explains the main provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act and instructs professionals in the proper application of its regulations in the workplace.
